Michael A. Polewski (B.S., Microbiology, UW-Madison) currently works as a Research Specialist for the University of Wisconsin Department of Animal Sciences. His laboratory studies the biology of Extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC), their involvement in the invasion, colonization, and induction of disease in bodily sites outside of the GI tract, and their mitigation by plant secondary metabolites, namely proanthocyanidins (PACs).

His goal in enrolling in the M.S. in Biotechnology program is to become a more versatile scientist, capable of contributing to a variety of functions within a research and development laboratory, while enhancing his scientific background, refining his team leadership skills, and obtaining a cross-disciplinary knowledge that is vital for a dynamic and enterprising biotechnology field. In addition, he would like to learn more about identifying and translating novel discoveries that have value into a commercializable product or service.
